This is tribute to the strength and courage of our friend Greer who passed away on the 7th of February 2010 from Cancer.
Since I became a Coach in 2003, helping clients discover their core values and how they work as drivers has been a life changing exercise for many. From this exercise clients have changed career path, made huge decisions about how they live and discovered purpose and mission...
However, in February 2010 a friend of ours used them in a very different way to send us all a message.
Greer had been diagnosed with terminal Cancer, and a few months before she passed away she used a Core Values tool I gave her to help her get clear on what was important over the next few months. At her funeral, her brother read out what she had written... It was like she was there speaking to us and delivering a very important message.
A heart felt thank you to Michael her husband for allowing me to share this with you.
This is what Greer wrote...
No people are more important than your family. They are there for you at birth and then everyday of your life. I am lucky to have a great relationship with them all – of course all families have their moments but that’s life. Especially my parents, I don’t think you appreciate them enough until you’re a parent yourself.
What can I say [he's] amazing. His love, understanding and kindness give me butterflies. The strength and support he has shown me over these hard times words can’t explain. To have his life turn upside down completely, he is my hero. I can’t even begin to know what he is feeling. I am the luckiest person in the world to have Michael by my side.
Friends are hard to come by and special and loving friends are even harder. I am lucky I have an amazingly different set of friends. Some I have known for 20+ years. One more than 30 years. We talk, laugh, cry, bitch and gossip together.
Didn’t really think it would be high on my list, but over the last 7 months it’s been the only thing in my life at the moment. Learnt a hella of a lot about health and nutrition lately, it really is amazing what we do and put in our bodies.
I always say that you can’t change the past. I have always had a positive attitude, but at the same time I can be stubborn and negative. My sickness has taught me to not be selfish and that there are other people that are worse off than me. Be positive everyday and more importantly everyone around me also needs to be positive.
This is what life is for. Enjoy yourself. They say laughter is the best medicine. Fun is laughter. There are no worries when people are having fun. The world needs more fun.
[Bella is Greer's two year old daughter]
She is the main core value out of them all. She fits into all these core values. She is my life, my world and the inspiration for why we are here. I get goose bumps EVERYTIME I see and hear her.
