Thought of stopping smoking? Thinking you can do it and have not come around to doing it? Have you maybe tried and then started again? Well, you are not the only one...
Overcoming the addiction of smoking can be overwhelming, as it is trying to kick a habit which is both physical and emotional. The good news is that both NLP and Hypnotherapy have proven to be very effective methods to conquer a habit and addiction. Paul Mckenna is a known author on the subject in the UK, and has had a great success rate over the years for example. Not only can be done, but it only takes a few sessions and offers you the support of a practitioner.
Smoking is an addiction, and runs on the unconscious level...You may find yourself reaching for a cigarette to relax, or have a break, or disempower an emotion, like feeling angry or agitated for example. Cigarettes are an easy way to control your moods. Nicotine itself is a poison, which your body reacts to by mimicking the chemicals. Your natural cycles are overwhelmed and the emotions are not fully felt. Throughout the days, we have natural waves of emotions...like a wave...we ride on feelings...like nervousness before attending a meeting, or relaxing while sitting down for a cup of tea...A smoker may find themselves unconsciously reaching for a cigarette during those 'ups' and 'downs' times throughout the day. It will feel like a relief and before you know it, you will be reaching for the next cigarette which averages the intensify of the next wave...If you give up, you may feel anxious, bored, and not want to have to manage these feelings.
Habits are held in the unconscious, so you may try to stop consciously and find it difficult. Using NLP and Hypnotherapy allows to align the conscious and unconscious minds to create positive change. It assists with the addiction itself, both physically and emotionally, and also with any limiting beliefs, eg: 'I don't have the willpower to stop', ' I will put on weight if I stop', ' I don't know how else to relax'. It also assists building motivation to be and remain a non-smoker.
1- Make a decision on the date which you will give up. Diarise it and tell a few of your friends.
2- Write down the reasons why you want to give up for yourself. Eg: "I don't want to smell of cigarettes all the time'
3- Write down the good points about being a non-smoker. Eg: ' I want to feel good when exercising'. 'I want to give my kids a smoke-free environment'
4- Change your habits - Eg: clear the ashtrays, swap the chairs around if you always smoke in the same place.
5- Focus on your strengths. You can do it.
6- If you have a craving...breathe though it and you will ride the wave
