My approach to Life Coaching is encapsulated in the phrase "Empowerment through Intention". I believe that consolidating identity and personal meaning promotes the well-being with which people can successfully confront life's challenges and live authentic lives. With this groundwork being attended to, one is more likely to be effective in resolving inner conflict and confident in calling on personal resourcefulness to deal with the many issues that may call for resolution and transitions that need managing.
I use many NLP strategies and techniques to assist clients change limiting beliefs and behaviours and free themselves from anxiety, stress, depression, grief and addictions.
I also draw on management experience in the public service to assist people improve performance at work, enhance opportunities for recognition, and resolve workplace problems.
I am a reflective person who likes reading biographies and philosophy. I studied philosophy and political studies at Auckland University which stimulated an interest in the search for meaning, humanism and political history. I completed further studies at Massey University in business administration.
I worked for over 30 years for the Department of Corrections (Probation Service) as both practitioner and manager and where I received training in Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy techniques.
I am currently employed by the Student's Association at the Eastern Institute of Technology in Taradale, Hawkes Bay as an advocate for students and operate my own Life Coaching practice (KJL Life Coaching).
I have been involved in sport and in the past competed in endurance events which taught me much about physical training and mental discipline. I believe I am measured in my response to most problems, unlikely to over-react and thoughtful about solutions.
