Sara provides Psychotherapy for people who self refer for long term issues that affect their day to day living. Psychotherapy addresses an internalised attachment relationship. That's how it is different from Counselling.
Psychotherapy is a long term process, it usually takes place over months/years.
Psychotherapy focusses on childhood events and patterns, going into the child-self at different ages/stages.
People come to see Sara for a wide range of issues;
Sara trained in 1989 as a Counsellor at the Herataunga Campus of the Central Institute of Technology.
She trained as a Psychotherapist in 1997 at the Wellington Institute of Transactional Analysis.
Sara is a Clinical Supervisor for beginning Counsellors.
Sara also uses Interactive Drawing Therapy Techniques in her work and personal life.
What to expect...
I will ask you to describe what you have come to see me about and we may talk about your childhood experiences, your parents, whanau, teachers and friends.
Our conversations together show us patterns that formed in you when you were a child that affect you as an adult. I will support you to do this in steps.
I may say to you "how do you want to be when the counselling/therapy is all finished?"
Having a goal; Once you know how you want to be at the end of the counselling/therapy, thenyou and I will set some small steps towards reaching that goal. I will support you to take these steps.
Enquiry and Reflection; During Counselling/Therapy I will help you to notice, accept and express any feelings/thoughts that are related to what you have come to see me about.
Tools to practice; I will suggest strategies for you to take away from the session to practice. These can help you to achieve your goal. These may be Action Methods, Interactional Drawing, Mind/Body work, Meditation. These are the aproaches I use. You choose the ones that feel right for you.
Sara embraces a spiritual approach based on many years of training and practice in Meditation.
