Paul C. Brown Dip Clin Hyp MNZSCAH MNHC(NZ) - Clinical Hypnotherapist
What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?
Clinical Hypnotherapy is the giving of positive suggestion while you are in the hypnotic state enabling you (the client) to make changes to your thoughts, behavior and even your body using the power of your mind.
While in the hypnotic state;
•· You are aware and in control, in a state where the subconscious mind becomes more receptive to positive suggestions that are more easily accepted and acted upon.
•· You are in a state of consent, i.e. No one can be hypnotized against their will.
•· You are part of a co-operative effort. (Client and Clinical Hypnotherapist need to work as a team for the hypnotherapy session to be successful)
It should also be noted that strong willed people are excellent candidates for hypnosis
(Please note: - Hypnotherapy is not an alternative to seeking medical advice, in fact you may be asked to visit your Doctor first to confirm that a condition has no organic base. Hypnotherapy can be very successful in rehabilitation and it compliments the treatments of other health professionals).
My Training
My Diploma is from the New Zealand School of Clinical Hypnotherapy and is one of the most comprehensive hypnotherapy courses available. Subjects covered in theoretical and practical sessions in this course include; Psychology, Counseling, Behavior Modification, Psychopharmacology, Anatomy, Physiology, Human Sexuality, Hypnotic induction and techniques including, Regression, Self Hypnosis and Pain Management.
Keeping an active connection with the school has ensured on-going professional development. In addition I have an active role with the New Zealand Society of Clinical and Applied Hypnotherapy and have a recent membership of the Natural Health Council.
Why choose Hypnotherapy?
To match your thoughts and beliefs with your true ability, Hypnotherapy is about training the mind! The subconscious part of the mind contains our fundamental thoughts, beliefs and convictions, which our conscious behaviors stem from. Our subconscious mind is always at work but we are often unaware of it. This part of the mind contains our self-limiting or self-defeating beliefs as well as our true aspirations, intuition and mental drive. Our moments of insight, wisdom and creativity all come from within the subconscious mind.
Hypnosis is also one of the quickest ways to make positive, lasting change in your life!! Also, contrary to media myth, hypnosis is completely safe... and you can experience some change in just one session!
What does it feel like to be in Hypnosis?
Hypnosis feels fantastic!!! During hypnosis you can hear the Hypnotherapist clearly and you are able to talk with the Hypnotherapist. It is sometimes referred to as a 'mind awake, body asleep state' as although you are physically and mentally very relaxed almost sleep-like you are actually mentally very alert.
A hypnotic session may feel as though it lasted just a few minutes while others may seem like it has gone on for ages - it's all perfectly normal - hypnosis can be so relaxing, you can lose track of time!
And what does it "feel" like? Imagine being totally, deeply relaxed... if that's not highly enjoyable nothing is!

My first unknowing use of hypnosis was talking my way through a very successful half marathon personal best. Away from hypnotherapy I enjoy spending time with my family, cycling, reading and supporting my local football club
